The South Carolina Ports Authority has a new and massive project underway in the Charleston area. On Feb. 3, the Ports Authority announced the groundbreaking of the largest speculative industrial facility ever constructed in the Charleston region.

This massive new facility located in Summerville, S.C., will support the increased activity at the Ports Authority and bring additional jobs to the area. Here’s what you need to know.

1-Million Square Foot Industrial Space in Charleston Region

The new addition to the Charleston Trade Center will be a 1,019,200-square-foot cross-dock industrial building located in Summerville, SC, off of the Nexton Parkway interchange near I-26. The Charleston Trade Center campus includes over 3 million SF of Class A industrial space, and this new project will add an additional 1 million SF of space.

The new industrial space will have 40’ ceilings, 275 trailer parking spaces, and 120 dock doors. It is located 25 miles from the Port of Charleston and is visible from I-26 in Charleson’s distribution corridor.

Work on the new space is already underway, and the project’s owners expect an opening date sometime in the fourth quarter. Given the expansion of operations at the port and business in the area, the developers believe that the timing for this project couldn’t be better.
